Doom and Doom 2 Definitive Edition Launches with Enhanced Features and New Content

A newly launched compilation of Doom and Doom 2 is now available across multiple platforms such as PC, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. This edition introduces numerous enhancements and features, such as a new episode developed in partnership with creators from id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames.

First launched in 1993 and 1994, respectively, Doom and Doom 2 are iconic first-person shooter games that set standards for the genre that are still relevant today. Despite several previous adaptations, this latest version presented at this year's Quakecon is positioned as a definitive release.

Enhancements include online cross-platform multiplayer, allowing both competitive and cooperative play with room for up to 16 participants, full support for community-created single-player mods through an embedded mod browser, as well as new accessibility features and an optional contemporary soundtrack. Moreover, there is a considerable performance upgrade overall, offering support for 120fps and 4K resolution on PC, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PlayStation 5.

Additionally, Doom and Doom 2 now include an official new episode featuring fresh demon opponents and additional weapons. Named “Legacy of Rust,” it is set in a besieged base within a distant area of hell. A new deathmatch map pack with 25 multiplayer arenas has also been introduced.

Longtime enthusiasts will likely enjoy the inclusion of the id Vault, which showcases everything from early design concept art to unreleased content that did not appear in the original games.
